Attorney Johnny Joubert, owner of Joubert Law Firm, will be riding this year with the Legion of Mars, a New Orleans Mardi Gras krewe founded to honor America’s military and first responders. For Johnny, Mars isn’t just another parade; it’s a public salute to the people who serve, sacrifice, and keep their communities safe, and a chance to celebrate that mission in a way only New Orleans can.
The Legion of Mars describes itself as the only Mardi Gras parade with membership made up of active-duty and veteran military, first responders, and patriotic civilian supporters, presenting a true “Parade of Patriots.” The procession features themed floats saluting each branch of the Armed Forces as well as local police, fire departments, and other first responder communities. Highlights include the U.S. Marine Corps Band leading the parade down St. Charles Avenue, along with high school bands, ROTC units, riders on horseback, military vehicles (current and antique), celebrity guests, and even airborne military flyovers.
Johnny’s commitment to service began long before he stepped into the courtroom. He proudly served in the Louisiana Army National Guard and the U.S. Army from 1987 to 1995, deploying during the Gulf War in support of operations in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Kuwait. As an 88M Motor Transport Operator, Johnny drove 14-ton semi-tractors and hauled critical supplies, everything from ammunition and water to communications equipment, while stationed at King Khalid Military City in northern Saudi Arabia.
His Army path included boot camp at Fort Polk (now Fort Johnson), advanced training at Fort Dix, and NCO School at Camp Shelby. Johnny’s service earned multiple awards, including the Army Achievement Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with two bronze stars, and the Louisiana War Cross, recognition that reflects both performance and dedication under demanding conditions.
Along with their parade, Legion of Mars participates year-round in military-related philanthropy, including feeding Veterans on Veterans Day at the VA hospital. The krewe also helps active military, veterans, and first responders when they are in need, such as following natural disasters.
Make sure to yell “Throw me something Johnny”, on February 7th in uptown New Orleans. The Legion of Mars parade will start at the intersection of Napoleon Avenue and Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans at noon.
